If you ever wonder what are the best drinks on keto or any diet to help you burn more fat, help with your metabolism or immune system, gives you mental clarity, calmness, stress relive, support heart health or just want to know more, I am here to discuss that.
Whether you are on keto, low carb or just need help to feel you better, some of these drinks have many benefits.
The basics:
Water
Any diet you start, will suggest you to drink plenty of fluids, most likely water. Water is the most common and helpful drink. It helps you hydrate, keeps your body normal temperature, lubricate and cushions joints, protect your spinal cord and other tissues, get rid of wastes through urine and bowel movements.
You need to drink more water if you live in hot climate, if you are doing physical activities, running fever, having diarrhea or vomiting.
Coffee
For some people morning coffee is a must. And that is alright. Actually coffee has many incredible health benefits.
It will give you energy, boost your metabolism, keeps you awake, it is rich in antioxidants, could help you feel workout easier, can aid heart health, may help regulate emotions and keep your brain sharp.
Best coffee on the keto diet is a bulletproof coffee. You need to add healthy fat to it. It can be either butter, coconut oil, MCT oil or other.
Also can be used externally, like mixing coffee grinds with coconut oil, rub it all over your skin, and that will help you exfoliate the dead skin on your body.
Black coffee can also aid type 2 diabetes as well.
Being said that, coffee isn't for everyone. If you suffering from acid reflux, sleep disorder, anxiety or sensitive to caffeine, do not consume!
Tea
Many studies show, that drinking tea can help you boost your immune system, fight inflammation and even ward cancer and heart disease.
Best teas to drink are loose tea leaf.
Some teas are also great for nighttime. Those are caffeine free.
-Herbal teas, like Chamomile are good for calming, relaxing, reduce menstrual pain, helps with stress and improves sleep.
-Green tea made from matcha is full of antioxidants, can help lower blood pressure, triglycerides and boost heart health and lowering bad cholesterol, helps relive digestive symptoms, headaches and promoting weight loss.
-Black tea is definitely caffeinated, and has a much darker color than others. It can help with inflammation and boost your immune function.
-There are many teas, but remember, not all teas are helping you. Some of them better to avoid like, detox teas, suggest quick weight loss. Also avoid bubble teas, full of sugar, carbs and calories and tea lattes from your coffee shop and herbal teas may trigger allergies, because they spiced or contain certain fruits and herbs.
Electrolytes
As I discussed this previously, electrolytes are essentials on the ketogenic diet.
They help your body's chemical reactions, maintain between fluids inside and outside your cells and more. Electrolytes also keep you balanced, because your body doesn't get enough nutritions from carbohydrates while you are on this journey.
Key elements in electrolytes are potassium, magnesium and sodium. Sometimes you can also find in them calcium, chloride, phosphate and bicarbonate,
You can always buy ready to use powders, what you need to mix with water, but for a quick fix have some salted water, bone broth or pickle juice.
Other drinks:
Soda
If you love drinking coke or any other sweet sodas, I would suggest you to drink only the once are safely sweetened on unsweetened. Most of the "refreshing" drinks contain artificial flavoring and on a top of that there is many with fake sweeteners.
If you craving them, please DO NOT drink "diet", instead drink "Zero" sugar added.
You can read more about safe sweeteners in my "How to start" post.
Alcoholic beverages
Unlike some other diets forbid alcoholic beverages, on the ketogenic diet you may consume alcohol moderately.
Clean spirits have no carbs at all, like vodka, tequila, gin or whisky.
Wine is ok, but remember they have about 4 g net carbs per serving.
Use mixers carefully, some of them are full of sugar or harmful sweeteners.
Most of the beers are not keto friendly, because they are high in carbs and made from gluten and/or other non keto ingredients.
In my keto journey I have drinking coffee regularly, I probably consume 3-6 cups a day. I like the taste and it is necessary for me to stay sharp at work. I also drink my electrolytes daily. I'm not a huge tea drinker, but have some time to time. Alcoholic beverages I drink rarely if there is an occasion. Soda is not my thing at all.
